Here we recommend three private accommodations in Tobetsu (Hokkaido, Japan) available for booking both on Airbnb and Booking.com. They vary based on size, proximity to the town centre and price, but are well looked after and make for great places to stay.
Oheso
This building is right in the city centre (hence the name Oheso, which literally translates to belly button). Within a 10 minute walking distance radius you have all the tastiest restaurants in Tobetsu (Jigen, Deer Shop, Okonomiyaki), as well as all the best Izakayas (Waka, Tobetsu Yakitori, Half Time). Equally, you are close to the public baths, the local shrine, Aso Park, and the Tobetsu river. It is truly right in the centre of the town.
In terms of facilities, it sleeps a total of 17 people (2 bunk beds, 1 full sized bed (sleeps 2), 3 twin beds (each sleeps 1), and 8 futons). It has parking space for 6 cars, a 4k TV, great Wi-Fi, and three bikes available for rent. It is 5 minutes on foot from Tobetsu station. The building itself is historic, and the tatami room has been maintained with a traditional display. The interior is mostly wood-clad, and there is also a large kitchen space.

Silent Cabin
For those looking for more of a peaceful, countryside experience, we highly recommend Silent Cabin. It is a short drive out of town, or about 25 minutes by bus (though the buses aren't super regular). Tucked away by luscious hills, this architecturally inspired house is a calming space, equally perfect as for couple's getaways as for a workation. With its great wifi and stunning views, this could also be a good location for digital nomads looking to visit Hokkaido. At night, the river by the property glows with fireflies.
Its design won an award from the Association of Japanese Architects. It has a well outfitted kitchen and bathroom facilities and can house up to 8 people (3 double beds and 2 singles). It also has a sauna tent and all the necessary accessories. As a house near the forest and surrounded by farms, there can be a lot of insects outside, especially in summer, so if that particularly bothers you, we may recommend one of the other suggested accommodations.

TG Home
This apartment complex accommodates long term stays as well as shorter term stays. That said, it caters towards smaller groups (1/2 people) and is a cheaper option for those looking for an alternative. It is located a 12 minute walk from the station, so is still very much in the town, though a little further out than Oheso. The place is well looked after and the community of permanent residents are friendly and considerate. It has kitchen and bathroom facilities and two single beds.
